Our Rug Cleaning Process
With over 70 years of experience, we've refined our multi-step hand-washing process to expertly care for your rugs—whether they're investments, family heirlooms, or favorite accent pieces.
The first step to our professional area rug cleaning process is to perform a pre-inspection. Our in-plant experts pre-inspect every area rug that comes through our facility. This inspection includes:

- Area rug identification: Our experts can tell you what your area rug is made of and even where it was made.
- What type of cleaning process is best for your area rug: Because every area rug is unique, some require a specialized cleaning process. This pre-inspection will allow the experts to determine what type of cleaning is best for the care of your area rug.
- Repair check: Our experts will thoroughly look over your area rug and recommend any necessary repairs.
- Detailed report: Following the pre-inspection, a detailed report will be emailed to you with all of the details concerning your area rug(s).
Our multi-step cleaning process for standard oriental area rugs looks like this:

- A tumble dusting to loosen dirt and dust in the fibers.
- A thorough hand wash front and back using a rotating soft-bristle brush, high-volume rinse, detailed scrub of any fringe, and a final rinse through specialized machinery.
- Spot and stain treatments are applied as needed and depending on severity.
- Up to 12 hours in a climate-controlled dry room ensuring optimal drying time.
- Grooming of the fibers and the fringe.
- Professional packaging for safe delivery or pickup.
All of this is included in our cleaning for $4.50/square foot.
An area rug would need to go through a specialized cleaning process typically for these reasons:

- It is a silk, antique, or other type of delicate area rug.
- It came to us wet – either from flooding, rain, urine…etc.
The process for cleaning in these situations is more detailed and time-consuming depending on the condition of the area rug. In some cases, the area rug may still be able to go through most of the regular cleaning process listed above. Here are some of the different methods that may be used in these unique situations:

- A thorough hand wash on the front side of the area rug using a low-moisture shampoo and a rotating, hand-held, felt scrub brush.
- A low-moisture water extraction using a carpet-cleaning wand on the front and back to rinse any remaining soap and extract all moisture, dirt and germs from the area rug fibers.
- A low-moisture hand washing using a sponge lightly dipped in soap and water then using an upholstery cleaning wand to rinse and extract.
- For flooded area rugs, we typically must sanitize them and do an odor treatment before sending them through the regular cleaning process – as long as they are standard oriental area rugs.
These specialized cleanings can cost anywhere between $6.00 - $12.00/square foot.
While we always strive to have area rugs cleaned in the quickest time possible, it typically takes about two to four weeks depending on the current flow of business.
