Most fine area rugs are made with wool or a combination of wool and silk – both of which are natural fibers. Natural fibers are much more likely to absorb liquid than nylon fibers (what most wall-to-wall carpet is made of) – meaning the difference between spilling coffee on a nylon fiber versus a wool fiber is astronomical.
