Tile and Grout Cleaning

5 Things You Need To Know About Tile and Grout Cleaning

The cleanliness of floors is a priority for many people, and it is safe to say that most people own tools, such as a vacuum, for keeping their floors clean. Some may even have a professional cleaning every 12 to 18 months. It is common knowledge that carpets can be professionally cleaned, but did you know hard surfaces like tile and grout can also be professionally cleaned? Most flooring experts recommend that a professional tile and grout cleaning be done at least once a year, but ideally twice per year. Before scheduling with a local flooring expert, here are 5 things you need to know about tile and grout cleaning.

1. Why Does Tile and Grout Need Professional Cleaning?

There are several types of stains and soils that cannot be removed using everyday cleaning methods. Professional cleaning experts use specialized tools such as a tile cleaning wand with a dual jet spinning head. This deep cleaning method removes most stains and rejuvenates the grout which is typically the portion that needs the most cleaning.

2. What is the Cleaning Process?

First, the cleaning expert will conduct a visual inspection.  to look for pre-existing damage to tile or grout, painted grout, cracked, damaged, or loose tiles, deteriorating grout, and tile glaze. We apply a specific tile and grout cleaning agent, and then hand scrub tile and grout with a grout brush and a tile brush. We use a tile cleaning wand with a dual jet spinning head to rinse and vacuum, and then vacuum again, without the rinse, to extract most of the moisture from the tile and grout. The tiles will dry within 15 minutes, and we recommend having a sealant added to the grout for long-term protection.

3. Before You Schedule a Tile and Grout Cleaning

Examine the tile and grout before scheduling a cleaning to determine if the grout looks painted, if there is damage, and whether the tile is glazed or natural stone. Many professional cleaning companies will not touch tile that is damaged, loose, or natural stone, and will also refrain from cleaning grout that has been painted or is deteriorating. Try to avoid using bleach on tile and grout because it may cause it to break down, negatively alter the color, and make a sealant less effective. If you are unsure about whether your tile and grout cleaning can be performed, it is best to call your local tile and grout cleaning experts and give them a detailed description of your tile and grout.
